Shocking practices of U.S. immigration services through the lens of a master of creative documentary.

You might recall the chilling reports from the U.S.-Mexico border: migrant children forcibly separated from their parents, detained in care facilities, or—in some shockingly inhumane cases—kept in cages. Outrage echoed across the globe, yet such incidents continued to increase. Errol Morris, a filmmaker unafraid to reveal harsh truths about his country, shows that the cruel treatment of children was not merely a byproduct of the Trump administration’s immigration policy but its very aim. From the outset, the plan was to separate children from people crossing the U.S.-Mexico border illegally (many from South American countries, and occasionally Africa) as a deterrent: a warning that crossing the border could mean losing what is most precious. This exposé, based on NBC journalist Jacob Soboroff's investigative book “Separated: Inside an American Tragedy,” unveils the mechanisms targeting innocent victims under the Make America Great Again slogan. The film leaves little doubt: if Trump regains the presidency, conditions at the Mexican border are likely to worsen.
