Such Feeling
The most important contemporary documentary on queer Warsaw. An honest portrait of a group of friends, which became a generational manifesto.
Artist and choreographer Alex Baczyński-Jenkins, in his first full-length film, spent years following his friends with a camera in hand. Starring Aaa, Billy, Dawid, Filipka, and Olo, the film captures a group that creates, protests, and supports each other as they navigate an often-hostile environment for queer individuals. Baczyński-Jenkins vaults between documenting and co-creating scenes filled with intimacy, play, rebellion, and sensuality with debut performances both on stage and in adult scenes, as well as the invention of a new language with reimagined pronouns. In one memorable garden scene, a mantis unexpectedly lands on Filipka’s head, sparking a spontaneous celebration and dance with the insect. Yet, this joy is soon overshadowed by harsh realities: slurs, firecrackers, and assaults serve as stark reminders of the persistent hostility they face. "Such Feeling" is a diary of queer daily lives, blending performances, protests, and fleeting moments with discussions on happiness, sex, and dreams, developing into a cinematic testament to life, and the courage to embrace fulfillment.
