The final screening of the acclaimed "Animal" and a daring story about the former Soviet republics at the penultimate day of 21st WATCH DOCS. Human Rights in Film.

How the Azerbaijani dictatorship, through corruption and propaganda, creates the illusion of "a country like any other" for the West's consumption. WATCH DOCS program director Konrad Wirkowski writes, “Ilham Aliyev - the dictator who has ruled Azerbaijan for almost 20 years - ruthlessly eliminates political opponents, suppresses freedom of speech and violates other human rights. Meanwhile, he also creates the facade of a modern, rapidly developing country, which organizes exciting sporting events, all for consumption by other states." At 9:30 p.m., at Kinoteka, come see the film "Pushing Boundaries". Russia's war with Ukraine viewed from an unusual perspective: unexpected consequences of the annexation of Crimea for Ukrainian Paralympians. Russian aggression in 2014 deprived Ukrainian Paralympians of their state-of-the-art training facility. Their stories reflect the image of contemporary Ukraine and its issues.

Wednesday also features the final screening of the film "Animal" (MURANÓW cinema, 6:00 p.m.). It is a documentary by French activist Cyril Dion, which premiered at the last Cannes film festival - a story about two teenage activists with a mission to make the world aware of species extinction. In a light film form, "Animal" looks at the deeper causes of the environmental crisis, marked by climate change and a great wave of mass extinctions.
