Green stories: Screening of the film ‘Persistence’ accompanied by a meeting with Marek Kubacki

About the film:

Persistence (Poland 2022, directed by Jacek Schmidt, 50') ’The film is a story about trees as persons - close and accompanying humans since the dawn of time. The narrative axis of the film is the observation of the emotional relationship between a man - a tree surgeon - and his tree patients. This particular doctor is Marek Kubacki, who has been saving mature trees from felling for over 30 years. Now retired, he still visits his former patients to check on their condition. Images from such ‘doctor's visits’ show impressive, age-old trees that have been saved from extinction thanks to Kubacki's efforts. Combined with the reflections of this exceptional surgeon on his equally extraordinary patients, they add up to a compelling story about the tree as a living being - worthy of being treated as a person and not just as a source of raw material or fuel.’ - producer's description

The Green Stories event consists of a screening of the film Persistence and a meeting with Marek Kubacki - tree surgeon, dendrologist and community activist. It will be a meeting around the subject of old trees in the city and an attempt to find an answer to the question of whether old, decayed, broken trees are unnecessary and must be replaced by new ones.
